getting something off my chest for once

This post is gonna be just me typing shit out to get off my chest, but it's something I've been really, really concerned about for a long time, and I'm tired of keeping it to myself most of the time. As you guys know through some of my posts here, I don't have a positive opinion on the FNF community. Not because it's "cringe" or "the game ruined newgrounds", but because it's done actual damage to people that it can't be swept under the rug. I know this isn't the best way to start off 2025, but considering when this information was relayed to me, I might as well give my own thoughts.

So recently, I've heard the mod Mario's Madness has gotten into controversy. You're probably wondering why I care if I don't usually care about mods. The reason behind this is because MM was one of the few mods I was actually looking forward to seeing, and when V2 released, it didn't disappoint. The songs were great, and while the story was hard to understand, it at least portrayed BF and GF realistically caring for each other. Granted my hype for V2 was somewhat muddied by the Ninjamuffin drama that was happening around the same time, but afterwards I focused on MM and I liked what the team put in it.

If only I had known what would happen exactly a year later. Because a year after V2 was released, the mod got into controversy for something one of the composers did. Sandi, a composer for various songs in the mod (such as Starman Slaughter, Overdue, Paranoia, and a bit of All Stars), was exposed for drawing fetish art of a minor. While I won't be too hard on Sandi here, since a lot of people have pointed out that they also were a minor at the time, they still drew a minor in a sexual manner, which is crossing the line. This isn't "oh someone said a naughty word around a teenager"; this is still depicting an actual kid's persona in an inappropriate way. That said, Sandi was like 2-3 years older than the other person in question. Apparently the other person specifically asked for the drawing, and they both later regretted it. Overall it's weird, but many have been overexaggerating the accusations. But as others have pointed out, Frazzdude (the guy who made MX) was occupying the server when he was way older than both parties. I'm not saying Frazz should be labeled as a creep, but he definitely should give his side of the story so people won't view him as one.

However, this is not an excuse to harass anyone involved. But since these accusations were spreading on Twitter, I'm almost certain you all know what happened. After that, it was found out one of the cleanup animators for the base game drew sh*ta art years ago, which added fuel to the fire. As for what I think of that, while I advocate against hiring people who draw l*li or sh*ta content, I'm not sure if the person in question stopped drawing that stuff or not. If they stopped, then there's always room for change. If not, then I recommend blocking them and voicing concerns about them. I don't really have much to say on the matter since I think the Sandi situation is worse due to the aftermath, but that's the best advice I can give.

As for the aftermath, Sandi's songs have been removed from MM, as said by Marco (the director). He also mentioned Sandi's songs will be reworked, which has caused many to be concerned as Sandi's songs were considered some of the best ones in the mod. Many found this unfair, as other people in the fandom (such as Slingmingo, someone who was outed for being racist and a creep) have gotten off for far worse offenses. This actually ties into what my main point throughout all of this is, so sit back as I rant a bit, because to say I'm pissed off would be an understatement.

As mentioned before, the FNF fandom has been affecting real people. This isn't about drama between shippings of certain characters. This isn't about how certain characters are portrayed by the fandom. This isn't about the game's reputation being "ruined". This is about multiple instances of real people being used and abused, and for some reason, nobody gives a shit.

The biggest example is what happened with Revie03 (now known as Raven) during the VS Sonic.exe debacle. If I had to explain everything that happened with it, we'd be here all day. But long story short, Raven was framed for grooming, even though the people she was talking with were 2-4 years younger than she was. Not to mention one of them accused her out of spite, effectively ruining her life. However, as more people began to look into the accusations, people began to question the authenticity of the Sonic.exe devs. This unfolded even more drama, but I'll link you a playlist so you can get more information since I don't think me sitting here and describing it can do much justice.

All this did was reveal the double standards of the FNF fandom, especially since the dev team failed to kick off Jesterfrog, who solicited illegal images of a minor, but they shunned Raven, who did significantly less harm. And the worst part is that it's still happening. Literal teenagers get harassed for being weird at worst, but actual pedophiles get ignored. Granted, this isn't only an issue with the FNF fandom, but the reason I distrust the FNF fandom specifically is for a good reason.

I'm sorry, but when your community has not one, not two, but countless grooming cases in the span of almost 5 years, it stops being a coincidence and starts being a concern. But for some reason, people don't give a shit, let alone the base game devs. And it makes me stop feeling sorry for them when they don't realize how serious this has become. I get not wanting to make a statement amount drama, but there's giving too many chances to people who have no interest in changing. I don't know if this would've still been the case if the game wasn't open-sourced, but it feels like that was the biggest mistake the devs made, because I doubt it would've been this bad without mods.

And yes, I am aware that removing the open-source codes for the game would undermine the concept of the game itself. I know the devs wouldn't have had the foresight to predict any of this, but a line needs to be drawn. This is especially apparent when people (mainly on Twitter) try to cancel each other over petty reasons like some offensive jokes (which I would get, it's not for everyone), not realizing the game is a Newgrounds game.

With all of this in mind, you can see why I created the "fuck you fnf fandom" tag. I'm slightly disappointed that it didn't take off like I wanted it to. Granted I wasn't expecting anyone to utilize the tag much, but I was hoping it would at least send a message. But hey, I'm not forcing anyone to use it. All I'm asking is for people to stop engaging with the FNF fandom, let alone anyone who wants to make drama out of it. It's valid for people to enjoy mods or work on them, but PLEASE keep this in mind. Stay safe, and spread the word. We can't keep letting these people getting away with this.
